Dr. Hartman brings more than 25 years of higher ed experience, including nearly 13 years at UT Knoxville. She has led initiatives advancing academic excellence, institutional integrity, accreditation, strategic planning, and continuous improvement. Known for collaborative leadership, she builds strong partnerships across departments and engages others in meaningful dialogue. Her service on the Oak Ridge Schools Board of Education and various university commissions and task forces reflects her commitment to education and the Volunteer community.
- Manages all aspects of Institutional Effectiveness
- Serves as Institutional Accreditation Liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (the Commission) and ensures compliance with Commission and US DOE policies and regulations
- Coordinates Academic Program Review (APR) for the Provost Office
- Leads annual and long-range planning efforts for departments’ evaluation and assessment processes
- Coordinates academic accessibility initiatives and compliance; collaborates with general counsel to address legal issues related to academic accessibility
- Supports efforts to secure and maintain programmatic accreditations
- Participates in meta-assessment and supports student learning outcomes assessment at the program level
- Leads campus efforts to maintain the institution’s Academic Program Inventory
- Participates in strategic planning for the department and the institution

- Coordinates the online administration of the California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST)

- Assists with the planning, assessment, review, and reporting of programmatic student learning outcomes as part of the university’s Assessment Steering Committee
- Provides support for the planning and documentation of Volunteer Core student learning outcomes assessment in conjunction with the Volunteer Core Assessment Committee

With more than 15 years of experience in higher education, Ashley assists in ensuring institutional compliance with SACSCOC, including identification of substantive changes and organization of correspondence for submission. She also serves as the institutional administrator for the HelioCampus and SPOL platforms used for data collection and reporting related to accreditation, academic assessment, academic program review, and course evaluation. Ashley serves as a Peer Evaluator for SACSCOC, as well as a member of the Tennessee Accreditation Network and UT Knoxville’s Assessment Steering Committee.
- Manages all aspects of the university’s compliance planning and reporting system (HelioCampus) and the required interface with other technology systems (Canvas, Banner, etc), including training design and implementation.
- Monitors and tracks substantive changes and provides support for institutional accreditation
- Administrator for the IE website, including document management within TRACE
